Counselor Profile
Rachel den Boef
Supervisee in Social Work
Life is not easy, but you do not need to walk through it alone. My goal is to bring peace back into your life as we partner together in your healing journey.
All of our sessions are focused on you, you are the expert of your own experience! As we work together, my goal is for us to discover the “why” and equip you with practical tools to aid in the healing process. Utilizing an assortment of evidence-based techniques, each session is tailored to fit your needs at your pace. In addition, I believe in the life-giving nature of spirituality. As a Christian, I will provide Biblical insight and encouragement upon request.
Prior to working in an outpatient clinical setting, I was employed as a counselor on the Child, Adult, and Geriatric psychiatric units of Virginia Baptist Hospital (Central Virginia). Serving individuals with acute trauma, suicidality, and a wide variety of mental health conditions, this position not only grew my competence in working with the acutely ill, but it also gave me HOPE. I saw lives changed through the power of counseling, psychoeducation, and psychiatry. My goal is to bring this same hope to the individuals/ couples/families sitting in my office.
I love working with couples and families! I grew up in a large family where conflict was a common occurrence, yet love was given out liberally. Families are the key building blocks of society, and I strongly believe in the integrity of marriage and relationships. In addition, I believe each person has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and this is the basis for which I provide family and couples counseling.
I have experience working with Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoption Services. I have also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for youth in foster care. Because of these experiences, I can aid individuals and families as they navigate challenging government systems.
MORE ABOUT ME:
I love to travel! Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with different populations around the world. As a teenager, I spent time serving children in Central America and Northern Thailand. This cultivated in me a heart for the poor and oppressed, and enriched my appreciation for the beauty that is cultural diversity! In college, I worked with inner-city youth and volunteered at an anti-sex trafficking organization. In addition, I spent time in the Middle East working with at-risk refugee populations, and served as an interim professor in Cambodia educating university students.
