Consider this group if you are an adult in Virginia experiencing chaotic relationships, difficulty managing your emotions, and/or have problematic behaviors as a result of intense emotions.

A 55-minute intake session ($170) must be scheduled prior to joining.

This group may be used as an adjunct to existing individual therapy. Though individual therapy is not a requirement for enrollment, it may be recommended based on individual needs.

Vanessa Cheshier, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Vanessa completed DBT intensive training through Fairfax County in 2019. She has been facilitating DBT skills groups for the past three years, including helping with curriculum development and leading a DBT consultation group.

What are Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills?

From behavioraltech.org, problematic behaviors evolve as a way to cope with a situation or attempt to solve a problem.

The function of DBT Skills Training is to help enhance a client’s coping skills and strategies when facing everyday challenges. There are four skills taught in DBT:​

Mindfulness: how to be fully aware and present in the moment without judgement
Distress Tolerance: how to tolerate negative emotions in difficult situations, rather than escape them with problem behavior
Interpersonal Effectiveness: how to express needs and set boundaries with others while maintaining self-respect
Emotion Regulation: how to understand, manage, and change emotions that are causing distress
