Our approaches are tailored to meet the needs of our clients. Although therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, your journey may begin as follows:
- You will complete a comprehensive intake form to review with your counselor so you may both understand your unique therapy needs. You will also discuss what brought you to counseling and what you hope to achieve.
- Together, you will develop a plan and chart your course towards clarity and contentment.
- As you begin your journey, your counselor will support and guide you, equipping you with tools to navigate and overcome your roadblocks.
- If you should get stuck, your counselor will remain a grounded and caring support system to renew your determination and get you back on track.
Our therapists do not prescribe medication, but we do make referrals to appropriate doctors or psychiatrists if we determine medication may be helpful.
Out counselors use a variety of approaches including talk therapy, play therapy, and process-oriented therapy. We do make referrals to appropriate psychologists if we determine additional testing and assessment would be helpful.
We aim to support you throughout life’s challenges and encourage you to stay connected with us.

Sunstone offers a range of counselors, from graduate interns to licensed specialists, as we strive to make mental health counseling easily accessible to all. Our rates vary based on the therapist’s credentials and level of training as well as the length and type of session.
Sessions are tailored to the needs and goals of the client, typically running 55 minutes, and varying in frequency, from weekly to monthly or as needed. We typically recommend clients begin therapy on a weekly basis, although each client will discuss the right frequency with their counselor. Counseling may be provided in individual, couple, family, or group session format.
Payment
Payment for each session is due at the time of service. You will be billed via our secure, online HIPAA-compliant telehealth and billing portal, Theranest. You may use an HSA or FSA credit/debit card to pay for services, and you may be eligible for reimbursement for out-of-network services from your insurance company.
Insurance
Sunstone Counseling is an out-of-network behavioral healthcare provider. Payment for each session is due at the time of service, and clients receive a receipt via email in the form of a Superbill. Clients may submit Superbills to their insurance provider to initiate a claim for partial reimbursement.
To find out what your reimbursement rate is, contact your medical insurance provider and inquire about your out-of-network outpatient behavioral healthcare benefits, including your deductible. The rate of reimbursement depends on your particular insurance policy.
