Counselor Profile

Julie Silverman
Resident in Counseling
My passion is working with children and their families to foster a happy childhood. I believe that all children are capable of wonderful and amazing things. I believe in the importance of environments and relationships that enable children to blossom and grow.
I work primarily with children, adolescents and their guardians. My focus includes concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, ADHD and trauma. More specifically, I am interested in supporting children and families navigate behavioral challenges in school or at home. I draw from principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT,) play therapy and art therapy. I also view things from a multicultural perspective that emphasizes the value of identity and diversity.
MORE ABOUT ME:
I recently moved back to Alexandria after five years living abroad in Kaiserslautern, Germany where I worked with military-connected families. I am so excited to rejoin the amazing Alexandria community. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, yoga and hiking. I also love a puzzle and a cup of tea at home on a rainy day. I currently live with my husband and our two cats, Freya and Marble.
