Counselor Profile

Charlie Clark

Charlie Clark, LPC, NCC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a caring and compassionate therapist ready to assist you with life transitions, relationship crises, anger management, stress relief, depression and anxiety, grief, behavioral modifications, and most any mental health concern you may encounter. I have been a Mental Health Care Provider since 2006 and work with all populations including adults and children of all ages, couples, families, and groups.

My therapeutic approach centers on a combination of Cognitive-Behavior (CBT), Family Systems, and Psychodynamic therapies while often using techniques that span the entire range of therapy options. Finding what works best for individual clients, regardless of approach, is my primary objective. I have a strong interest in helping clients improve their primary relationships and for creating positive environments for children. Accordingly, I use my comprehensive understanding of family systems to assist couples and families of any configuration to improve communication, heal emotional wounds, reset the parent-child dynamic, and otherwise rebalance relationships so they are supportive, nurturing, and empowering.

I am also Level 3 trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, including instruction by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, and use the approach either directly or as an adjunct to broader couples counseling interventions. I am a strong advocate for children and integrate Play and Talk Therapy to effectively assist children and adolescents who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues including those associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and-(ADHD) diagnoses. I have also worked as an Anger Management specialist and provide one-on-one Anger Management-intensive counseling to anyone having difficulties controlling their anger impulses resulting in negative personal, relationship, and employment consequences. I also have significant experience assisting clients with lawyer or court-directed anger management requirements.

MORE ABOUT ME:

Lastly, having spent over 25 years as an Information Technology (IT) Consultant in the Metro Washington area prior to transitioning to being a therapist, I have a keen understanding of the stresses and strains encountered by the area’s large Consulting community. This makes me uniquely qualified to assist Consultants and their families. I have lived through the anxiety of employment uncertainty associated with the contracting process and shrinking Government spending, the stress of always being “billable,” and the impacts on quality of life due to the long work hours expected by consulting firms.
