Counselor Profile

Valerie Mazloom

Graduate Intern

It’s normal to experience growing pains in life, and it’s important to take steps to mitigate that pain. Growing up is hard work! Finding your way in this world and discovering who you are is a beautiful process that takes time to accomplish.

As your mental health therapist, it is my goal to walk alongside you on your journey, guiding you as you balance the ebbs and flows of daily life. Specializing in children, youth, and young adults ages 3-25, I am dedicated to providing consistent and reliable care for clients working to navigate life as they continue to learn and grow. I provide gentle and empathetic care from a loving and accepting perspective. Through a humanistic approach, our sessions will provide you with the space to lay down your burdens, be authentically yourself, and give you the time to invest in your personal growth.

As I recognize that every client is unique, I believe that treatment should reflect that, which is why I apply a wide range of theoretical approaches and modalities. Individualized care is critical for ensuring each client’s unique needs are met. I employ techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused and strengths-based approaches, and play therapy for a variety of presenting concerns. If you or your child are looking to find peace and balance amidst the chaos of life, I am here to provide you with tools to weather the storm.

MORE ABOUT ME:

My family and friends are very important to me, and I like to spend my free time with them exploring and trying new things in and around Richmond. When I’m not with clients, you can find me cozied up with a good book, baking, learning a new song on piano, or playing a video game. I’m very dedicated to the New York Times’ Games, and love to discuss Wordle strategies – let me know your favorite starting word!
